Project: National Center for Children in Poverty

The National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP) is a respected policy research center based at Columbia University that produces a wide array of research papers and research tools. Their website needed to be capable of presenting all of their projects and tools in a clean, easy-to-navigate manner. It was also vital that, with a wide array of staff and researchers frequently releasing publications and updating data, in-house staff would be able to handle the day-to-day operations of the website.

While on staff at NCCP, I participated in a complete reorganization and redesign of their website, customizing the SPS CMS system (written in PHP) to provide staff with access to almost every aspect of the website. This CMS allows them to “stage” parts of the website before making them public, ensuring that their editorial review process can move smoothly. The CMS also provides access to update huge datasets used in their Demographics and Policy Wizards and their 50-State Profiles.
